Community Guidelines

There are a few simple guidelines which we expect all participants in the Powergamer community to abide by, all of which directly inform our approach to community moderation (detailed below). These apply in all sections of Powergamer, while moderation decisions are also informed by the context in which comments are made.

#1 We welcome debate and dissent, but personal attacks, persistent trolling and mindless abuse will not be tolerated. The key to maintaining Powergamer as an inviting space is to aim for an intelligent atmosphere.

#2 We believe in true freedom of speech. We do not censor opinions, regardless of how moronic they may be. Keep in mind that freedom of speech doesn't actually mean you're allowed to say anything you want unchallenged, and also keep in mind that there is a huge difference between an opinion and libellous claims or illegal threats.

#3 We will remove any content that may put us in legal jeopardy, such as potentially libellous or defamatory postings, or illegal material posted in potential breach of copyright or trademark laws.

#4 We will remove any comments that are obviously commercial or otherwise spam-like. Our aim is that this site should provide a space for people to interact with each other, and we actively discourage commercial entities passing themselves off as individuals in order to post advertising or links. We also discourage "link arguing". If you are unsure, ask before posting links.

#5 Keep it relevant. We know that some conversations can be wide-ranging, but if you post something which is drastically unrelated to the original topic, then it may be removed or hidden in order to keep the thread on track. This also applies to queries or comments about moderation, which should not be posted as comments. If you have any complaints about moderation, please write it down on a piece of paper, roll it up into a thin cylinder shape and then gently slide it into your anus.

#6 Be aware that you may be misunderstood, so try to be clear about what you are saying, and expect that people may understand your contribution differently than you intended. Remember that text isn't always a great medium for conversation: tone of voice (sarcasm, humour and so on) doesn't always come across when using words on a screen. Essentially, its importance u speak well english or else weill kick you from forums.

#7 This is not a democracy. Although our tolerance levels are quite high, Powergamer, like all other sites, is a dictatorship. We will moderate you any way we want, with no explanation required from our part. Life isn't fair.

#8 Any site that tells you they can't read your PMs is lying. The only thing we can't see in our database is your password, which is fully encrypted on all levels. But we have full access to all your activity on Powergamer, so please don't use our PM system to plan terror attacks or send suicide instructions to vulnerable people. We likely won't read your PMs (frankly you're not that interesting), but don't be surprised if we do. Always remember #7.
